It's a simple thing, but practically no-one in the world of image editing software seems to get it. You make an edit to an image, but you're not sure if you like the edit or not, so you keep hitting undo and then redo to see if it looks better. Prone to error, a bit tricky to do, and to be honest it's a bit of a cludge for something that is a common operation in and of itself. Enter the blink comparator. You make an edit to an image, then you press the compare button. While it's held down, the image as it stood before the edit is displayed, and when you let go, your edit then reappears. It's a really simple thing, and you will simply learn to love it. You can do this either in the preview screens for particular operations, such as brightness changes for instance, or you can do it straight on the main screen by using the Compare button on the toolbar. What is more, if you use the Compare toolbar button with the Shift key held down, then it will compare the image with the original image before any edits were made and not just the last one. Nice and easy. |
